The article I have read is about controlling the oil in the sea caused by oil spills. While we are talking about socially responsible investments. This article contributes a lot in the fact that we could make people, nature and environment collaborate with each other while making profit. Cleaning oil spills is a costly business. We have to focus on the investment cost value before we can concentrate on the results of the investment itself. In this article they have constructed an Eco Friendly robot named “Seaswarm “ which cleans and collects all the oil spills from the sea surface. These robots use solar energy to operate which demands only 100 watts of power. It is constructed to be used in extremely harsh conditions in the sea. They utilize GPS system to coordinate themselves and can figure out different strategies to clean up the mess if oil spills are detected.
While creating this Seaswarm they constructed a nanomaterial that can observe only oil from the water surface. It uses nano fabric technology which only observes oil from the mixture and you can heat it up to collect the oil back from it and reutilize the fabric itself over and over again. The robot itself is equipped with these nanomaterial that observes the oil and is heated itself so that the oil can be stored in a bag.
While we talk about the effectiveness of this product it is relatively cheap, quick and efficient at cleaning up oil spills. Comparing to the deep water horizon leap of 2010 where 800 skimming ships were in service. It could have been a lot cheaper if we could have used Seaswarm and would have only taken two months to clean up the whole mess.
